We’ll be playing some shows outside our normal area code the next couple weekends.
The first is Saturday, March 17th, up in Bellingham, WA. Its a house show with our good friends Grenades. If you haven’t heard them before, check out the link below. Rad dudes, but rader tunes. Not only is the show on St. Patrick’s Day, but it’s also Ryan’s birthday, so two reasons to come out and party. Click here for the Facebook invite. Email us if you need address/directions.
The next weekend we are hitting the road with our buddies Serial Hawk (you can check out their music below too) to play in Portland, OR and Arcata, CA. Friday, March 23rd is at the Rotture in Portland with Ninja, Mongoloid Village, Rolling Through the Universe and Serial Hawk (Facebook Event Here). Then on Saturday, March 24th we’ll be in Arcata at The Facement with Serial Hawk and Orestrate (Facebook Event Here). We can’t tell you how excited we are for both of those shows!
We are currently in the depths of tour planning. We have our route outlined and are confirming shows, so its so far so good. We are also getting some new merch together for tour, so we’ll share that as soon as its in.
On the tour prep side we are having to replace the engine in our trusty van, The Crimson Tide. To help get money together to cover the engine costs and be sure we are set for the road, we started a Kickstarter today to raise the funds. If you click on the link below you can check out the packages we put together for you if you like to contribute. There is some pretty cool stuff on there if you want to help us out.

With the new year comes some new things for us.
We found out a few months ago that after the new year guitarist Patrick Oiye would no longer be an active member of Smooth Sailing. His last show will be this Saturday at the Blue Moon Tavern in Seattle. Pat leaves Smooth Sailing on good terms to peruse opportunities he has with one of his other passions, Taiko. If you don’t know what Taiko is, we suggest that you check out the next performance of Seattle Kokon Taiko, the Japanese drumming group Pat belongs to. If you like bad ass drumming, you will not be disappointed. If you can make it on Saturday, please come down to the Blue Moon to see Patrick shred with us one last time.
When that said, we’d also like to introduce the newest member of our family, Tyler Romo. He found us on the casual encounters section of Craigslist and he just happen to be able to play guitar. Seriously though, if you were at our show in Tacoma right before Christmas, you know this guy can shred (that was his first show with us). Tyler was an original member of Seattle band Cascabel, and has been playing on top of that for a real real long time. Make sure to say hi to him at a future show.
In other news:
-East Coast, we are coming for you! We’ll be hitting the road in Spring on our longest tour yet, visiting a bunch of new towns, and heading back to all our favorite cities from tours past along the way. Check our website for updates on dates and locations.
-New merch coming soon! All current merch is available at our webstore with free shipping for a limited time.
-Our van broke down! So buy merch! :) Lucky we have members that like to play mechanic and have dads with old man knowledge of how things work, but we still can use cash for parts.
We’ve got some other exciting stuff in the works, 2012 looks good.
Saturday we are playing an all ages show at The Ground Zero in Bellevue, WA with some rad bands from Salt Lake City. If you find yourself on the eastside come hang out with us. Six dollars gets you in or $5 with food. The show is early, (over by 10pm) so hopefully we can caravan to this other little show we know about. 257 100th Ave NE Bellevue, WA
If you are in Seattle that evening, we recommend The Monogamy Party record release show at The Black Lodge. It’s also a bit of a celebration as its the first release by upstart label Good To Die Records (goodtodierecords.com). Nik from GTD has been busting his ass getting this thing off the ground, and this first record will not disappoint. Two other GTD acts, Sandrider and Absolute Monarchs, will be playing along with our buddies Grenades, and a band from Bellingham called Tearamanapart. This one is gonna be a swell little get together for sure. Here is the FB invite: https://www.facebook.com/event.php?eid=258522134190889
Tonight we’ll be at Grudge Rock at the Re-Bar in Seattle going up against Great Falls. Should be an epic battle of knowledge, wit, and good looks.
Welcome to the Smooth Sailing blog, full of things you may or may not care about.
